Rainy Day Arts Guide Author:
Beth Malone
We set about conducting a national search for the perfect author for the Rainy Day Arts art lesson plans, which culminated very happily in a free-flowing collaboration with author and fifth-grade teacher, Beth Malone.
Says Producer/Director Dan Sperling, "I was looking for an elementary school teacher who was a real advocate of taking crafts projects one step further within the curriculum, and had a lot of

enthusiasm for young people. I really liked the fact that Beth had been integrating crafts projects into her regular teaching for years, and I was impressed with her ideas and creativity, not to mention the fact that she's an extraordinarily talented writer. I have to say that I was also impressed by the fact that she would do things like taking her fifth-grade class to the movies on a Saturday. Now that's dedication!

elementary school teacher who was a real advocate of taking crafts projects one step further within the curriculum, and had a lot of enthusiasm for young people. Beth Malone has been teaching elementary school for eight years. She holds a Bachelor Degree in English Literature, a Masters Degree in Elementary Education, and recently earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. In her spare time, she writes free-lance articles and fiction.
Ms. Malone says, "This project is exactly what I was looking for. When I watched the videos, I was eager to create a dynamic guide with mini-educational explorations developed around the excellent activities presented. I've always found that the best way to engage students is to thoughtfully link content knowledge with creative activities that allow them to use their imaginations. Packaging math, language studies, science and social studies lessons with crafts projects is the perfect recipe for fun and educational success."
When asked why teachers will enjoy using her Rainy Day Art Lesson Plans, Beth replies, "The guide has a sound educational basis, it's very easy to integrate, and the projects themselves offer so much creative variety. I feel that teachers who approach classes from a creative standpoint are better able to tap into all of their students' learning styles, and kids who are having fun are far more receptive to learning."
Beth added this information about the arts and crafts activities offered in the program: "Some are subtle and elegant like the stained-glass candleholders, a few are more whimsical like the tie-dyed butterfly magnets, and others, like the milk carton masks, are just outlandish fun!
