Renee says, "The scientist in me was thrilled for a chance to write about what makes magic and illusions work. The overriding message is exploration by the Scientific Method, but the subject is sheer fun. Students will enthusiastically study science, while feeling more like they're 'playing' with magic."
Renee Herold is a scientist and educator who holds both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, and is currently a Ph.D. student. She has taught science at the high school and college level for the past 12 years, most recently at her alma mater, Fitchburg State College. She also has many years experience working in the field as a practicing scientist, most notably in the area of disease detection and treatment. She lives in Massachusetts with her five children.
She says, "My goal was to find practical, fun-filled, "magical" lab activities that would spark the most enthusiasm, present the widest variety of scientific principles, and offer the best opportunities for young people to explore the Scientific Method.
